Let's get this big word out of the way, Tetrahydrocannabinol. Also known as THC, this stuff brings the party. Seriously, if you are coming to cannabis for its recreational uses, this is what you're mainly looking for. Out of the 100+ cannabinoids that have been discovered in this plant, THC is the main attraction. It is significantly more abundant than the others, and produces most of the stereotypical effects we know from cannabis in pop culture, which we call "the high."
Cheech & Chong and Bob Marley jokes aside, THC has been a main driver in the growth of the cannabis industry. It can induce very strong, and euphoric, sensations; though the other cannabinoids (and terpenes) do alter these effects. The varying combinations of these ingredients are what make up the different strains of cannabis you hear about.
On the medical side, THC is primarily a pain reliever. Similar to morphine, its "feel good" type of effect is incredible at removing chronic pains, and relaxing muscles. Having too much can even make you feel stuck, and unable to move. THC is also very useful in elevating moods, helping with conditions such as depression and stress, and can also help build an appetite. Whether using it for physical injuries, or to just "turn off" at the end of the day, proper dosing of THC can go a long way in helping your comfort.
It also plays a key role in cannabis' use for cancer patients. We will go deeper into this and more direct uses for THC in future posts, so stick around (even sign up for the upcoming newsletter) and you may learn something new!
